The planet Earth is the only one we have to live in. Who should save the globe? I believe we are all responsible. The change starts with us.
I was born and raised in Sri Lanka, a tropical island located amidst the blue waters of the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. This beautiful country has over a thousand miles of golden beaches as well as plenty of natural resources, including waterfalls, national parks, rivers, lakes, and mountains.
I was raised in the capital, but growing up, my passion was to travel and discover the natural wonders hiding away in rural areas. In the beginning, I had no intention of going green. However, the closer I got to nature, the more I felt connected to it. The responsibility to protect our environment is for all of us. We are all in the same boat. Unfortunately, we are living on this planet as if we had another one to go. As a Native American Proverb says, “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”
How can we help to preserve nature?
We can start by deciding to take a mug to our local coffee shop instead of asking for a takeaway one. Living a sustainable lifestyle is about redefining our consumption patterns. Looking twice to the daily habits and turning them to environmentally friendly alternatives makes a huge difference. We often forget how much humans depend on nature. Wherever we live, even in a modern skyscraper we need air to breathe, water to drink, and food to eat, all of which are provided by nature. In other words: when we speak about preserving nature, we are also talking about preserving ourselves.
Why I joined Fairforce?
Fairforce is a community of green-hearted professionals who care for nature. It’s pleasant to join people for whom implementing sustainability practices into the real-life needs of human beings is important. Green communities help in reducing carbon footprint and saving nature for future generations from land, air, and water pollution. In Fairforce, we are passionate about achieving a common goal to protect the environment. Their companionship makes my heart closer to nature. Together, we can make changes happen.
When a flower does not bloom, we must fix the environment in which it grows, and not the flower itself. We must focus on the bigger picture.
I am proud of taking part in this Green Revolution!
